16th
I like when people visit in NY. It gives you an excuse to do things you wouldn’t otherwise do.
Today’s afternoon itinerary, walking straight up Madison Ave. and reminiscing about the Gilded Age:
1. Laduree (thankfully, there were no lines.)
2. Ralph Lauren (worth a visit to see the mansion that this store now occupies. after we left, I felt I had to shake off the feeling of waspy irreverence. with its carefully placed ducatti bikes and plexiglass foosball tables, this store is the high temple of the aspirational male.)
3. Diptyque (had to indulge my “smelly candle” obsession. rosa mundi is such a happy scent!)
4. Gagosian Pop-Up Shop (damien hirst is selling an inkjet print for $2,500. or, plebeians can get a polka dot canvas tote for $14. clearly i’m in the wrong line of business)
5. Lady M (three words: mille crepe cake)
If we had more time, prob could’ve started at The Frick on 70th to ogle paintings.
